Upon your arrival at Paro Airport, you will be warmly greeted and transferred to Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan. Nestled in the western central part of Bhutan, Thimphu offers a unique blend of modernity and tradition. After checking into your hotel, you will begin your exploration with a visit to Kuensel Phodrang, home to a colossal Buddha statue that offers panoramic views of the valley. Continue to the King’s (National) Memorial Chorten, built in 1974, which serves as a center of worship and a symbol of peace. Your sightseeing also includes the majestic Tashichho Dzong, the seat of the national government and the summer residence of the Chief Abbot of Bhutan, and a visit to the Folk Heritage Museum, where you’ll gain insight into Bhutanese rural life.

After a hearty breakfast, you will journey to Punakha/Wangdue, a region known for its lush landscapes and historical significance. En route, you will stop at the Dochu-La Pass (3,150 meters), where 108 chortens stand against the backdrop of the stunning Himalayan range. As you descend into the valley, the warmer climate of Punakha will welcome you. After checking into your hotel, you will visit the iconic Punakha Dzong, the “Palace of Great Happiness,” which once served as the seat of the government. The dzong is beautifully situated at the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers, and it continues to be the winter residence of Bhutan’s spiritual leader, the Je Khenpo. Later, take a short excursion to Chhimi Lhakhang, known as the “Temple of Fertility,” built by the legendary Lama Drukpa Kuenley, affectionately known as the “Divine Madman.”

Today, after breakfast, you will embark on a full-day excursion to the enchanting Phobjikha Valley, also known as Gangtey. This glacial valley is one of the most beautiful spots in Bhutan, especially known for being the winter home of the rare and endangered Black Necked Cranes that migrate from Tibet. The valley is also home to the Gangtey Monastery, an important site of worship for the Nyingma school of Buddhism. As you explore the valley, you will be captivated by its pristine beauty, rolling hills, and the spiritual atmosphere that pervades the area. In the evening, you will return to your hotel in Punakha/Wangdue.

After breakfast, you will drive to Paro, a journey that takes you through diverse landscapes, from lush valleys to high passes. On the way, stop at Lamperi to visit the Royal Botanical Park, where you can enjoy the rich biodiversity of Bhutan’s flora and fauna. Upon arrival in Paro, check into your hotel and later visit the Ta Dzong, which houses the National Museum of Bhutan. Here, you’ll find a remarkable collection of art, relics, religious thangkha paintings, and more. Adjacent to the museum is Rinpung Dzong, a fortress-monastery with a fascinating history and stunning architecture. In the evening, enjoy some leisure time exploring the charming streets of Paro.

After breakfast, prepare for one of the most iconic experiences of your Bhutan tour – a hike to Taktsang Monastery, famously known as the Tiger’s Nest. Perched on the edge of a steep cliff, this sacred monastery is a site of pilgrimage and offers breathtaking views of the Paro Valley. The hike takes approximately 2 hours each way, and the effort is richly rewarded by the monastery’s serene beauty and spiritual ambiance. After visiting Taktsang, you will also visit Drukgyel Dzong, a fortress that once defended Bhutan from Tibetan invasions, and Kitchu Monastery, one of the oldest temples in Bhutan.

Today, after breakfast, you will embark on an excursion to Chele-La Pass, the highest motorable road in Bhutan at 3,810 meters. The pass offers panoramic views of the Himalayan range, including the sacred Mount Jomolhari and other snow-capped peaks. Enjoy the crisp mountain air and the stunning landscapes that stretch out before you. After soaking in the views and capturing the beauty of the place, you will return to Paro. The remainder of the day is at your leisure, allowing you to explore Paro town or relax at your hotel.
